Social Media And Word Of Mouth Marketing

by admin on January 8, 2010

Social Media is a form of Word Of Mouth Marketing. In fact it is huge part of it. Social Media is expected to skyrocket in use this year. With millions of people using the Internet on a daily basis, now that the Internet can be mobile (iPhones for example), and people read online reviews of products before purchasing products, Social Media is where it’s at. People whose internet connections have gone down, rush to the library for a quick fix. People are getting divorced over addictions to Facebook.

TV ads can be flipped through. Telephone marketers are hung up on. Newspapers are going out of business. Junk mail is worse than spam emails. The cost of some of these forms of advertisement campaigns are high. And the outcome may not be what you expected. (Unless your TV ad is a viral hit, like the Snuggie campaign.)

Social Media is going to reach more people than ever with new campaigns. Facebook fan pages that offer contests are a huge hit. Right now Nestle Crunch has a challenge featuring Shawn Johnson and Apolo Anton Ohno. Whrrl is an iPhone app where GPS shows your location (if you allow it). You can then “check in”, post photos, add captions and notes and deliver this information to Twitter, Facebook and your friends.

Look out for more new and exciting uses of Social Media.
