#SXSW Interactive is Happening Right NOW!

by admin on March 13, 2010

SXSW Interactive word of mouth marketing has to be the most powerful force in the social media world that I can think of. #sxsw isn’t a trending topic yet, but it will be. Today, March 12, is the beginning of SXSW Interactive, the biggest collection of social media geeks in the U.S. all year. Twitter debuted here. Foursquare debuted here. Whatever will be big next year is already happening here. Whatever you want people to talk about is being talked about at this event- if it isn’t there, it won’t be talked about.

Ok, so that’s a little extreme. It’s not like you can’t make it big without SXSW Interactive- but if you want to get word of mouth marketing going about your product or social media innovation, SXSW Interactive word of mouth marketing is the most powerful, accessible and organic way to make that happen.

So what is going to be big this year? I’m thinking Foursquare. In December Pete Cashmore of Mashable talked about them being the Twitter of 2010. They have made big deals with Bravo TV and are doing a musical scavenger hunt right now (!) at SXSW Interactive with SPIN Magazine- none of which is to be laughed at. To top that off, they just released their version 1.7. If you aren’t using Foursquare yet, start.

Location-based real-time check-ins are where it’s at- they are the future of word of mouth marketing and I recommend no matter what your field you take a long look at what you can do and how you can integrate with this trend. For more on what’s going on at SXSW Interactive, visit the #SXSW twitter stream page.

What do you think will be the newest and biggest this time around?
