Mention it to someone while you are waiting in line at the store, hand out a card to a restaurant owner when you tell him that you want to write a blog post about his place, wear a t-shirt with your blog name on it.

Maximize your word of mouth marketing for your blog by attending events where other bloggers meet. Attend Tweetups, conventions, and conferences. Talk to people. Be the first to introduce yourself and make them feel comfortable by asking questions. Ask for their business card. Most likely you’ll be asked for yours in return. Ask bloggers to guest post for your blog and then be sure to follow up with them after the event.

Teach other people how to start blogging in your home town. You don’t need to charge a fee for this. Just provide the basics for a small group, then set up a forum for them to meet online. Ask them for referrals when their blogs are doing well and ask them to tell other people about your blog. Since you are doing volunteer work, this can be a topic for your local newspaper. You’ll get free advertising and a mention in the press. This can lead to other mentions in the media.

Write about local events and interview people in person. Starting in a small area makes it easier for word to spread about what you are doing. Join local community groups and business groups, especially those that allow networking. Get the word out there about your blog but do it in a positive way, one that can help others including small businesses, people looking for work and other bloggers.
